COMPLEX CARE AT HOME

What is complex care?
Complex care is specialist care provided to individuals with profound health or social care
needs, to enhance their quality of life and maximise their potential.
Supporting people with complex care needs can be a challenging experience for families
and carers alike. For the service user themselves, it’s important to be in a safe and
comfortable environment where they can live life the way they choose to.

Our personalised home care specialisms
We invest in the expertise of our teams. We have learning centres in every branch and our
Learning & Development department collaborates with specialist providers to ensure that
all staff are clinically trained to a high standard, and ready to excel in the field. We also
have a comprehensive range of online training materials that our staff can complete from
the comfort of their homes.
Our training covers a variety of skill sets, including:
-
Venipuncture – The process of obtaining intravenous access – most commonly for blood sampling
-
Wound care - Including the safe management of ulcers and injuries
-
PEG feeding – PEG (Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy) is when a tube is passed into the individual’s stomach via the abdominal wall. This provides a means of feeding when eating by mouth is not possible or isn’t sufficient. PEG feeding can be helpful in several circumstances to avoid malnutrition. The individual need for a

PEG would be identified by our specialist team and discussed with the individual
-
Tracheostomy care – A tracheostomy is an opening (made by an incision) through the neck into the trachea (windpipe). It opens the airway to aid breathing. A tracheostomy can be a short or long-term solution. Caring for a person with a tracheostomy includes keeping the tube clean and clear and changing dressings around it
-
Stoma care – A stoma is an opening on the abdomen (stomach) which allows faeces or urine to be collected in a pouch (bag) on the outside of the body. Stoma care is the management of the stoma and the bag and can also include managing physical issues and skin problems. Care can also include supporting the emotional impact of having a stoma, for example, depression or anxiety
-
Dementia care – Our dementia care includes support for individuals with dementia caused by Alzheimer’s, stroke, head injury or brain tumour, among others
-
End-of-life care – Our staff are trained to deliver the end of life care with empathy ensuring the individual’s final days are spent in as much comfort as possible.
How to arrange personalised home care
We believe that everything should begin with a face-to-face meeting at a time that’s
suitable for you. An upfront, no-obligation discussion helps us understand more about
your requirements and how we can help you.
Following this, we will carry out a clinical assessment of the individual’s care needs and go
through your available options. We will show you how we work so you can understand
how our market-leading technology and teams will support you.
Once a care plan is agreed upon, we’ll assemble a specialist team, trained to meet your
requirements. Each care package is led and coordinated by a registered nurse and a
clinically-trained care associate.

We’ll organise frequent check-ins to encourage regular feedback on our care or changes to
your requirements or preferences and ensure that we always exceed your expectations.
Our phones are answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week by a dedicated out-of-hours
team. So, if you ever need to contact us, we’re here to help.
